Hvac Leds???

well I had the day off and just started playing around with my truck, I pulled the dash apart and took out my HVAC Controler took it apart and pulled the LEDS out, went to radio shack and they said they had the right ones in Blue but there were $5 EACH! but I bought them anyways because I had th dash apart and dident wanan put the white ones back in... So I get home and try putting one in. Did nothing though maybe there wired parralell put them all in STILL nothing, can you put these in backwards? I dident sodder them just pushed them threw (kinnda forced them threw the old soder and out the back side of the pannel) but there really tight in there. any ideas whats wrong?

I dont know if this method works-however it is possible that you could've put the bulb in backwards. I beleive that the stock bulbs are'nt leds-therefore you have to do something similiar to what I did. I drilled six holes in the circuit board-very carefully-and soldered a two sets of 3 leds wired in series. If you have questions pm me-im sure someone else will chime in. It should look like this hvac sorry the pic is a little blurry-good luck!

ah your kidding me... I took them out figured out what side was wich (wired them to a flashlight lol) then tryed everything back wards. Im usually pretty good at figuring this kind of stuff out... I looked at the package there 4.5v MAX am I putting to muc too them? will they not turn on if its too high or do they just blow like a reg. bulb? I know there still good becaue I can get them to shine off a 2 batt maglight (3v) btw how did you wire yours? they look awsome

yes they will blow up very quickly. Go to superbrightleds.com-they have some great info on there. The leds series parallel wizard is very helpful-i wish i could take a pic of my curcuit board for you. I used 6 leds-three on each side wired in series. I drew power and ground from the cicuit-and connected the leds using some solid wire and a single resistor. You gatta be careful when drilling the holes in the circuit board-very close tolerences.
Also the veiwing angle of the leds is very critical. Leds project outward in a certain angle unlike regular bulbs which project in all directions. I used the 45 degree bulbs to get what you saw in the pic-I bought some 30 degree bulbs to see the difference-and you could visually see "hot spots" throughout the hvac.
Everything i used except the leds came from radioshack-including the soldering iron. I hope this helps you out-anymore questions dont hesistate to ask.
