Default HIDs or off road lights on 01 Sierra

I wasn't sure where to put this but hopefully this is correct.

I'm buying an 01 Sierra soon and am wanting more lighting up front. I live in SW Kansas and will be going over to Colorado to ride my bike. There's not much out this way or in eastern Colorado. I also know a number of short cuts using the gravel county roads where it's even darker. In short, I'm going to want more lighting up front, a lot more. I was considering just putting some round off road lights behind the grill and using those whenever no one else was coming but wasn't sure how well that would work. I'm also considering switching to HIDs. I really don't know how well the factory headlights work and if I'll like them though. Does any have any experience with off road lights compared to HIDs or an educated opinion on which would work better?

Also, if I have read and understood the conversion correctly, to switch over to HIDs I'll need to get Denali headlights and then an HID conversion kit? Do I need just the Denali housings or will I need some wiring and connectors from the donor truck too?

Thanks

You wont need the denali headlights, that's only if you want to go to a projector style setup. You can put HID's in your stock housing and they will be tons brighter than your stock bulbs. I would upgrade you low and high beams to HID's and see if you like that and then if you want more can always add some additional lights.

Shoot me a PM for more info on HID's. I have a friend that is a dealer and has great prices but he is not a vendor on here so can't post up his website.

Depending on what your style is..You could build a small light bar that houses two hella/piaa type lights which would give you the most lighting. Or you could run factory style fogs which would give a little extra. Hid kits basically come with a balast (wallet size) and a bulb that all plug into your factory wiring (No special headlights needed). Only advice I can give you on them is buy a quality kit, The cheaper HID kits are known for flickering/not working

Thanks for the quick replies everyone.

My understanding is that HIDs require a correct housing as well. Otherwise, you just blind on coming traffic which I'm certainly not interested in doing. That's why I was under the impression I needed the Denali housings. Is this no longer the case?

GMC, do you have any idea what company makes those LEDs you're referring to? My 01 doesn't have factory fog lights so the front end looks like Ribeiro's. I figured I'd put the offroad lights behind the grill for protection since they would be the 4 or 5 inch diameter size.

Thanks everyone.

No need for special housing. I didn't have to adjust mine. The HIDS or plug and play. You will get a bulb and ballast. You take your factory bulb connector and plug to ballast than the 2 wires from bulb hook to 2 wires off ballast. It's real simple. The lower the color the more light output you will get.
