Default help me decide on a sterio

ok, I recently bought a 97 jeep Cherokee from a friend. It has no stereo or speakers. its going to be my daily driver so I don't want to cheap out. I'm looking at a nice Pioneer hu and speakers. I have a sealed box with 2 10" Rockford Fosgate R1's rated at 300 150rms. Looking for a amp that will match the speakers. But all of these numbers are confusing the crap outta me. What amp would you use?

well, get an amp that is rated for at least 300rms.... but how many ohms are each of your subs ??? if they are 4 ohm, you need an amp thats rated 300rms or slightly more (400 or 500) at 2ohms mono

2 ohms: 420 watts x 1 chan.

Pick up a 400 - 500 watt mono (single channel sub amp) and forget about it. A JL500/1 would pound the hell out of your 10's but can run about a $1 a watt ($500 new). Definatly try to over power your subs vs. under powering them. Think of it this way......Towing a decent sized boat with your truck with the 4.3l 6cyl vs a 6.0l 8cyl. The 6cyl will work its *** off trying to pull the boat at speed where the 6.0l will pull it with ease. If you put a 250watt amp up to your setup it would work its *** off trying to play the speakers at volume vs. a 500 watt slightly over powered amp which would handle your setup like a walk in the park.

For simplistic reasons the only specs you need to worry about are:

Size: 10"
Impedance: 4-Ohm
RMS: 150 watts
Peak: 300 watts

The other specs are used for box design, and to give a person a little information on how a speaker is going to perform. It can be complex so I wouldn't worry about it.

Let us know how it sounds!!!!

You cant over watt them. A large amp that is fed a clean signal and oversized wont kill a sub because it is putting out a clean un clipped signa. The amp and your subs will live a long healthy life because you don't have to abuse the **** out of it to get the beat you want.

A undersized amp that is pushed hard with the gains cranked like most people do is a sub killing amp. It does this because it is putting out a dirty signal to the subs. It is called a clipped signal the subs will try to reproduce this nasty signal until they kill themselves.

For what you are wanting to run something like a JL audio 500/1 at 2 ohms will work perfectly.

You're going to run 2 2-channel amps just to make 3-400 watts???????????????? Seems like a stupid idea to me.
