factory radio presets
#1
I have an 04 GMC VHO w/ am/fm/cass./cd factory radio. This is the 3rd radio
that the dealership has put in within the last 4-5 months. The problem is that the memory presets will not stay at my set stations or eq. setting. Also, the eq. has gone flat on me and you have to quickly turn up the volume then back down again for the mids and highs to kick in. It is not abose system if that matters. I do have an aftermarket dvd player w/ 2 monitors, amp w/ 2 12" subs, and infinity components up front w/ out an amp. My amp and dvd player are hooked up to my ignition hot wire, so that they are on when the key is on. Does anyone have any ideas beside changing the radio to aftermarket on what to do next?
thanks,
John

When you put all the amps in, it seems like you might have switched some wires around. The radio needs a switchable 12v, like the key, and a memory wire, which taps to a constant 12v. If this is on a switchable source, you'll lose all your presets and EQ's everytime you start the truck.
It seems like you have a lot of stuff in it...why not bite the bullet and get a new HU?

I have had my brother in law look at my installation, and he says that everything is hooked up correctly as far as all of the wiring goes. He thinks their might be a problem with the internal memory on the HU since this only happens maybe once every 2 weeks or so. It's not that big of a deal, just a pain in the a** if you know what I mean. I have thought about upgrading HUs, but I am strapped for cash like a bunch of people, plus I don't know which one would be best for my situation. I'm not into sound competitions or playing music loud, I just want it to sound good at all volume levels. Any suggestions on an inexpensive brand that has a built in dvd player w/ am/fm/cd, it would not have to have a monitor but that would be ok.
