i made my own and i have 12's and i belive i was at 1.12 cubic feet! love the way mine sounds...load in the truck and you can hardly hear it outside even when the windows are down! pulling 128.5 db

If it's a sealed box, you can be plus or minus 20% of required box size and you will not hear any major difference - if you get outside of that 20%, polyfill. A larger amp will not make it much louder, you just run a higher risk of blowing your coils.
If your gonna build a box, use 5/8ths. 1/2 sucks, if your not extremely careful you'll split the wood when you drill holes and screw it in. 5/8ths just saves a lot of aggrevation.

I JUST USED 3/4" AND CALLED HER A DAY MAINLY BECAUSE I USED WOOD FROM WORK THAT WAS FREE AND CUT EVERYTHING ON THE CNC AT WORK!

thanks for the help everyone. Im kind of skeptacle of the 20% air space difference not changing the sound at all. I'm looking at various graphs i have of my subs and their sound in different air spaces and .75ft^3 (the recommended) is pretty different than the .7ft^3 (minimum). if you check my signature, you will see my set up. my amp is obnoxious overkill (1500w rms) for my subs (150w rms each). I can keep 1/2" from splitting when i screw it by drilling first so I'm not worried about that. Here's my biggest dilema:
Airspace is a big deal and i was told by someone who knows much more than me about car audio that these subs in particular are even pickier about air space. i really want to try to reach the .75ft^3 or as absolutely close as possible. If I build the box myself, I can build a box with these dimensions: 7"x13.75"x19.75" and thats max. so with 3/4" wood, that's .71ft^3. With 5/8" wood, that's .77ft63
I don't want to spend an obnoxious amount on a custom build and the only pre fabbed box i found that is close to .75ft^3 looks like junk so basically i have to decide between sacrificing an 1/8" on thickness or .4ft^3 of airspace for subs that I am told are extremely picky on airspace.
This polyfill stuff....how much would i need to make up .4ft^3 and can someone who truly knows their **** tell me if it works as good as actually having the correct airspace? thanks for everyone's help, i know im making this much more difficult than it needs to be but i just want to make sure i do the best thing
