Make the box the shape you want, then cut a hole bigger than the subs o.d., then put a mounting ring inside the box to mount the sub to. That way your cone, or surround isn't rubbing on the floor of your truck.

Also if you want to port it you could point the port under the middle seat so you could not see it.

ok guys, just to clarify, i know nothing when it comes to car A/V. basically what i need to know is do i just build a box and make a mounting place for the sub or does the inside of the box need baffles or anything.

do i need to port it? will a downfired sub put out the sound its supposed to compared to a front firing or other wise?

id like to duplicate the box in the link in the first post. this is in a DD-work truck so i cant just have a sub facing upward in the middle of the truck, the cone(or whatever its called) would get cut up in no time without a grille.

Skip porting. It's a lot harder on your sub if you don't know what your doing. Wait, it CAN be a lot harder.

It will sound the same, and if you get a good woofer, it will sound very good. Many home theater set ups are downfired, and they kick ***.

Make sure the sub clears the floor, either by a ring or building "legs" to lift it up. Secure it with L brackets so it doesn't roll off and smash into your foot in a hard turn.

Good luck

Do the cardboard idea, and build the box to the subs required specs.
The box you'll build won't be big enough to need baffles. Over 2 ft^3m then you'll baffle and support.

Earthquake makes some bad *** thin line subs. I believe all the way up to 15". 2 of those behind the seat would kick ***.

Also you could get 2 10" Digital Designs subs behind the seat in a reg cab. They have the box shown on there website and the JL 10w3 has nothing on a DD 1510.
