Default Corvette Remote

My friend just got a 98 Corvette and it has this really cool feature where when you get close to the car it unlocks. On the remote clicker thing there is an option to turn it on or off. The way I see it working is when you turn it on the remote just constantly puts out the unlock signal. Is there any way to make that work on our trucks? Maybe buy a Corvette remote and program it to our trucks?

I don't know if this idea would work or not but I had a thought. What if you rewired the unlock function around the button and made it constantly put out the unlock signal? I imagine that is how the regular ones work. Basicly just bypass the button all together and link the battery straight to the unlock... thing.

yeah but you wouldnt want it constantly sending out the unlock signal because then the truck would unlock over and over... i mean think if you were at home it would just be unlocking your truck the whole time, making the lights flash and whatnot... the corvette one must have something special so it knows when the car is unlocked and then it stops transmitting.

FYI the new Caddys have that feature as well. You should talk to custom stereo/alarm shop, or a Caddy dealer.

It's a passive unlock system (meaning the remote is not sending out a signal constantly). I'm not completely sure how it works, but I would guess it's something like passive RFID tags, if any of you are familiar with them. The car probably has something that sends out a signal, and when the remote gets close something inside it is activated by the car signal, and the car can read that. If the remote was constantly sending out a signal it would kill the batteries pretty quickly.

I would guess it would require swapping out some hardware inside the truck as well, maybe like making a BCM from a Vette work with the truck or something. I dunno what controls the remote unlock system.
