Don't chose a speaker based on what someone tells you to buy.. Go listen to them all with the same material and make sure there is no equalazation being used (IE, Bass, Treble, crossovers etc.)

I generally use the Diamond Audio M6 or D6 series (mid level stuff). I recently upgraded to the D9 speakers but have yet to install them. At $1999/set they better sound damn good.

has anyone used their stock deck with the adapter to allow a amp to be added? I don't really want the hassles of having a aftermarket deck (theft) but would really like to improve the sound

i think thats a bad way to not want one . but ya i know plenty of people who use there stock deck . as far as fine tuning though it sucks , most of them who have subs fade the music towards the front speckers so the rear ones dont distort . becausr thats where some adapterrs splice into

I have FOCAL components in my firehawk front and back and they are awesome. But they can get pretty expensive. They range in price from about $350-$1400 a pair. but even the cheap ones sound amazing. They like lots of power.

Andy,
FWIW I just upgraded mine. Alpine Type S 171A up front, PolK DB460's in the rear. May not be the quality that some have posted here but sound damn good to me. I have a rolling example if you wanted to have a listen.

Diamond, Kappa,JL,and Clarion are all good sounding speakers.
I love my MB Quart the best, but I woundn't get any of there entry level. Like the other people said it is about your personal preference on sound. Take a good clean CD like Eraser, enigma, depeche mode to a stereo store and play it. This type of CD has a wide range of frequency and are very clean.
