People seem to be afraid of speakers that aren't round. I understand the whole soundwave shape argument for round speakers, but I don't think it really holds much weight. I have heard some very nice sounding 6x9's plus you get more bass response from the larger speakers. I don't know anything about that brand, but they look to be good I say go for it!

There are a bunch of technical reasons why the 6x9 can not sound as good as a round speaker, but there is no sense in going over it.
You can find CDT 5in separates for a great price, so I would just do that.

Also, with the 6x9 bolting into the stock hole, it is not going to be nearly as solid a mount as with the MDF. I always think that careful assembly/installation is the most important part of a stereo system. The bass response alone will be worth the hassle.

That's exactly it! Running 6x9's in the rear deck acting purely as subs is a good idea, sometimes it works. Trying to pump out subwoofer freqs out of a full range 6x9 is asking o mud everything up. Oval or square shaped speakers are also naturally not as strong. Look at the square kickers, they have ridges built into them to prevent the cone from collapsing. Not many, if any, 6x9's have that feature.

You can get much better response and midbass while keeping clarity out of a set of properly amped components or coax's.
