I replaced my 6 disc cd changer with an aftermarket radio. I now have two radio's installed in my Denali. I did a write up on it and the wires I used, wasn't the ones from the xm module. You can easily wire in a bluetooth dongle in there as well, as long as you have the RSE or CD changer

The guys hacking the head units are probably tapping those same wires, just inside the head unit itself. Shouldn't be too hard to trace them from the connector inside the unit?

There are bluetooth dongles out there that are pretty small, should be able to fit one inside the hu or nearby without a lot of drama.

Maybe one of these days I will have to crack one open.

My thought was to drop it down to the top of the cubby hole in the center console so it not visible.

Got a link or example of the Bluetooth dongle you're referring too? I see some USB ones.

The one I used is a brand called "Millennia" - hate throwing up links for sale sites that may disappear on you so in case that happens description is - just a small heat-shrink-wrapped blob with power/gnd wires and a pair of RCA's coming out of it.

Random web pic of similar device

There are multiple ones like this though that should be easy to mount/conceal as you wish. The Millennia one I got works very well. I have heard others mention other brands that make a loud notification noise every time they pair, which would get on my nerves for sure - glad mine is silent on pairing.

Since the factory hu in my 300 has no aux input, I used a PAC Audio adapter that adds one, then attached the bluetooth dongle to it, and hooked power to a nearby cig lighter socket that only has power with the key on.

FWIW, I basically figured out how they are hacking the actual radio's...

Hack a Gm Radio Under 40$: 7 Steps

After some more reading and you tube DIY video's, I think I might spend the money on the I Simple ISGM651 set up.

It's a plug in, pig back set up. No splicing, No soldering, No hacking.

It's a little more than I wanted to spend but it maintains the factory radio look. Less chance some one will break in for it.

Yup, that's basically the same idea as the PAC Audio unit I used for my 300. In my previous 300 I had an iSimple adapter that did essentially the same thing, in fact in this case they're identical boxes re-labeled with slightly different connectors provided. (iSimple has 1 rca set and 1 older-style Apple adapter, PAC has 2 rca sets)

I just found out PAC is near me. I looked on there site and it shows the same Isimple module for Smart Phone integration. If there Price wasn't so High I would get through them. Since It's cheaper from several Online retailers I will go that route.

K guys- this is where I'm at now. Got an HU and X11 controller and went together well, I chose this one as I thought it best blended with the original display best. Actually sound a bit better than the original HU.........

That actually doesn’t look too bad with the color being close to factory lighting...if that center **** was black it would really blend in. I have married my 2002, so I’m stuck with 1.5 DIN opening, so I did the PAC add in and just run any audio I want through my phone...although I’m getting old so I find myself listening to more and more talk radio.

We don't use XM in either of our 06's so I just did the aux input hack on the XM signal lines. Easy and costs practically nothing. Input level is less than I would like but you can still get it fairly loud. Easy enough for me to add a bluetooth dongle to that later if I like.
