Battery light will not turn off
#1
Hey guys I got a 2005 Silverado swapped 4.8 to 5.3 I haven’t done the tune yet but my concern is that I bought the truck with the 4.8 engine and the battery light was on and I didn’t care too much cuz I thought it was just the battery or alternator going bad that it was just an easy replacement but that wasn’t the case, all of a sudden my gauges weren’t working but it was because my battery was dying, I replaced the alternator everything went back to normal but the battery light was still on and the alternator went bad again 3 days later so at this point idk why it is still on, I have a sound system on it but I’ve been blasting since I had the truck and I also have a bad transmission which means it stays on first gear and I end up almost redlining it but I try my best not to do it so it can shift ik is not ok to redline your stock alternator without a bigger pulley but I don’t get why my new alternator went bad quick and why my battery light is this on
Anything helps thank you guys

Ho-Lee Chit Brother! Throw in at least "one" period on that long run-on sentence... LOL. 🙈 Seriously, I had a hard time understanding and I'm bilingual.
Ok, so you swapped the engine, replaced the alternator and then the alternator died? When you replaced the alternator, was it for the proper year? What year was the engine from? Is that the alternator you swapped over with the engine? Did the light go out when you replaced the alternator the first time?
I'm asking because somewhere in the 04-05 year they switched to a pulse-width modulated (PWM)- controlled by the computer. Basically, the ECU controls the alternator duty cycle based on electrical load. The earlier system used a diode (inside the alternator) that regulates voltage. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong here.
I think you can use a PWM alternator in a earlier truck ("think"), but probably not the other way around? The alternator really needs to match the year of your truck.

In 05 they added a Generator Battery Control Module to the ground cable. This module needs to be securely mounted with a zip tie so it can read the current properly.
The battery light is only telling you there is an issue with the charging system.
You need to pull the code to see what its telling you. It could be Module that has an issue or something else on the circuit.

If the ground circuit module is unhook or bad it will threw the battery light on! And it won’t charge because of it too, I unhooked mine because want to what would happen because was going battery relocation and it was a no go! Make the negative ground circuit is hooked up and is good
