i have a factory amp behind the glovebox , in my 2001 tahoe none bose but with onstar. my question is , does a company make a wire harness that plugs into the factory harness where the amp would go, to use a aftermarket amp? like you would do for an aftermarket stereo.

No, no one makes a harness. Why are you wanting to bypass it, and what are you looking to do?

i want to install a better amp into the factory system. without re-wiring the truck. i already put a head unit in and i want to replace the factory speakers with aftermarket. so why not the amp also

That's where you run into a problem. If you run an aftermarket h.u. into the factory amp, it's still going to pull the lows out of the front stage. So, you do the math. No bypass available that's a straight-forward install, and if there's no bypass, you're stuck running wires from the aftermarket h.u.'s harness to the aftermarket door speakers, etc.

Metra does make a 71/70-2002 (iirc on the part #), but it's damn near pointless if you ask me. It doesn't do exactly what you're wanting, so no, no one makes a harness for what you're asking, but it does allow for aftermarket to be ran/ran through the factory b.s. You'll end up in the same position you are now, with distortion from the factory amp and such. It'll require just as much work as just running straight from the h.u. and bypassing the factory amp, without the harness.

Check out that harness, though. It's been a while since I've messed with one. The two parts are short three connectors, though. You'll have to do a little fab work to get them working correctly. The factory amp WILL cut bass, so read up on that harness. Because if you're planning on leaving it to run the factory sub in the back, and just wanting to re-route to front speakers, then you might be fine. Best bet is to just forget the nonsense with the factory unit altogether. Sorry if I tend to sound confusing, but it's nearly 3 a.m. on the East coast, and I'm in zombie mode.

Yes yes they do make a harness to bypass the factory amp sometimes they have them in stock at Walmart most of the time you have to go to like a RadioShack but you don't have to do all that you can simply find your speakers and bypass it there are a bunch of videos on this I'm going through the same problem right now

This is a 12 year old thread, and incredibly stupid one. OP put in a aftermarket head unit, and an aftermarket amp with aftermarket speakers. They wanted to get a bypass so they could use the factory wiring, instead of just running a set of RCA (or 9) wires from the head unit to the amp. Using the head units output would work better, have about a million times as many options (for quality and length) and be cheaper. Then run new speaker wire out of the amp. You would also lose all control of the amp (such as time delay, freq response, fader) that you would get if you used one of the head units RCA channels.

At least you are one of the few who use the SEARCH button.
