Default amp started blowing fuses

I have 2 10's powered by a 1000watt amplifier. There is a 40amp fuse on the amplifier and a 100amp fuse spliced into the power cable which sits in my engine bay. The 40 amp is the one that keeps blowing. It only happens when I run about 85-90% bass for 5+ minutes. Is this normal, or is something wrong here? I don't normally run that much bass at any given time and I'll probably turn the amplifier down a few notches anyways.

What is the impedance of the subs and how do you have them wired?

What kind of amp? There's a chance your running the amp at a lower impedance then it can take and that's why your popping fuses.

And as a tip, you can tell your amp can't put out 1000 watts.

14.4V(input voltage) * 40A(fuse rating) = 576 watts

There's a little bit of variance in this but it's usually close to correct, it's a good way of telling if amp ratings are bogus or not.

I'm not too smart when it comes to systems, so you're gonna have to work with me a bit. I don't know what impedance is or how to find it. I have the subs wired for 4ohms. It's a Kenwood amp.

Impedance = ohms

I still think they might not be wired correctly. If you could find the model number of see if the impedance is on the sub, it would be a great help.

Did it just start doing this or have you had the amp in for a while?

I've had the system in the truck for about three months now and it just started. I'll try to find the model number later.

Toss that then about impedances.

Have you recently adjusted the gains, or changed some settings in your head unit?

you should also get a smaller fuse under the hood. 60 or smaller.

Yeah, I changed the settings on the amp a bit. After it started screwing me over, I set them all back to where I had them before. Everything has been fine for a few days now.

This is the amp I have.

It's most likely you clipped the amp, and blew the fuse. If it's back to where it was and s working fine, you'll be allright.

Your bass boost is off, right?

I don't think so. Is that bad?
