amp smoking?
#12
the amp DOES have a protect mode...guess that failed. also, the LED display lights ARE coming on and there is 14 volts on the remote/power and ground wires, just nothing on the sub outputs. ill look into the sub wires touching. keep letting me know of any thoughts you might have.
here is my amp: http://www.drdetailshop.com/vd2500.1.htm
i paid $300 off ebay and it worked fine for about 10-15 hours (running time) so i DO NOT think i got screwed by the seller

viper is a VERY GOOD name brand.....
course i am a little partial since i have viper audio components in my kick panels and doors....it sounds to me that either the speaker wire is touching somewhere or the speaker terminals on the amp are gone......
also another thing you might try is the rca's, i dunno what kind you are running but you can get power and all that but if they dont give your amp any signal then you wont get any sound.....maybe your rca's got fried when it smoked or the rca terminals on the amp.....keep us posted on what you find, this has got me curious....

i appreciate your help. i got you on this site and scott (forklift) on gmfullsize helping me out. he seems to think i over powered the subs so that the ohm load dropped below what the amp is stable at.
i don't think it's the rca's because im not getting any power (checked with volt meter) on the sub outputs but i am getting power on the power wire, ground, and remote. not sure if i am supposed to get a reading on the rca's but i did NOT have any volts on the rca's. (but this might be normal). the fact that there are display lights working on the amp makes me think that maybe a fuse is blown in the amp. im running around a lot today and have not yet had time to open the amp and check but i guess that might be the next step.
oh yea, i took the subs out of the boxes...no wires were touching so maybe the amp plugs got somethin screwy with them

Trust me your amp is toast. There should be 2 separate lights for power/protection or just one led that changes between green/red. If its red then your amp is in protection but it sounds messed up. This thing is you probably got screwed over because the thing is you bought a refurbished amp. I am sure that if its a reputable company that you bought it from that they say somewhere in the small print they aren't liable. And in a sense they are screwing you, but you got screwed because you bought something refurbished.
A lot of people don't know that that stuff online is refurbished. You get what you paid for IMO. Those amps come back from people who buy them new and send them back to the factory for defects under warranty. Then the factory re-sells them to wholesalers and Flea markets for dirt cheap. You might already know this but I am just posting it for the people that don't

i bought it from a normal person. he was selling an s10 on ebay that was a show truck. i saw the amp in his listing in a pic and offered to buy it from him.
it very well might be toast, but i want to make sure i do all i can first before i throw $300 in the trash can and have to buy another amp.
i do have two separate lights, a green power light and a red protection light. the green light would flash on occasionally, i think it was when i turned on and off the truck. the red was never coming on. however there are blue display lights (no use, just show) that remained on so the amp is getting power, it's doing something with the power (lighting LED's) but the power is just not getting to the sub outputs. I am hoping the power goes to the led's first, than a fuse, than the sub-outs. if this is true, a blow fuse would explain the led's working and not the sub outs.
the amp smells like its cooked. before i open it up to have a look see, is there any value in it? not sure but maybe someone feels that buying a broken amp is worth it if they have the know how to repair it? its an expensive amp

The one thing I would try is sending this thing back to Viper. Maybe you could get money off for a new amp or maybe a whole new amp. Like I always say just talk to someone at the Viper corporate office because you never know something until you ask.

I used to waste a bunch of money on audio when I was younger and you realize after awhile that all that stuff is a waste of money. Thats why you see so many people selling their stuff on here, unless you like ear pounding bass.
