My 04 4 prong alternator quits charging 75% of the time when I'm driving and come to a stop and the idle drops. Been doing it for 3 years and last week it went out so I replaced it with a 145 amp and it still does it. Are there any way of wiring it so that when it starts charging it won't stop untill its switched off? Or are there an overdrive pulley for the alternator only?

 

Are you running an underdrive crank pulley without an overdrive alternator pulley?

 

no all stock, when it quits charging it idles rough and usually dies. That's what aggravates me.

 

Does it have a Generator Battery Control Module on the negative cable?

 

no it doesn't have the GBCM

 

Might have bad brushes or a bad regulator
