Default 145 alt shot amps way up....too far?

i put in a 145 amp alternator today. i put the asp overdrive pulley on the alt. the 105 that was in there would push right at 14amps at idle with the overdrive pulley on there. when i put in the 145 it sits almost at 17 amps! is that how ist suposed to be or is it pushing too hard? heres what im looking at now.

oh, and how do yall like my oil pressure at idle(780rpm)

First off those are volts not amps..and 17 sounds a little high to me. The alt might have a bad regulator in it.

And I hope my oil pressure doesn't get that high at idle when I installed my ported pump. :eye:

not sure on the volts issue. but it is volts, its even says so on the gauge. jfwy

btw, i hold a steady 60psi of oil press. at idle (stock tune) and run 62-65psi at cruise and pull 70-75psi at WOT. this is on a 160kmile 4.8L

I was going to say something about that when I first red this thread but thout that I would keep my mouth shut on that issue. May be you should remove the overdrive pully. Or maybe it is a bad regulator like said above.

Take the overdrive pulley off and see if it drops if its doesnt then its got a bad regulator.

i had it tested at o-reily before i put it in and it passed everything. after a little driving it settled down to just above 14amps my oil psi isnt that high all the time haha. its usually a little 40 pegs 80@wot that was about 3 minutes into the start of my truck.

Ditto. Is the pulley on the new alt?? If it inst, and its pumping that much voltage at idle. That reg is full fielding itself and might be pooping out.

If it jumps up there again you might also want to verify actual system voltage and dont rely on the gauge itself....they are NOT very acurate
