Default 2012 Sierra RCSB 5.3 build thread @ New Era Performance PART 2

The thread for the build on my truck has grown so much, I thought it would be a good idea to start a new thread for this stage as we are going to make some drastic changes. If you have read my first build thread, you know my power adder of choice is a Whipple 2.3 supercharger, and still is for the power level I was at or lower (my preference, to each his own). However, I wanted to move on with something else capable of making some more power efficiently, and also provide another option for my customers as well. So we decided to build a high end twin turbo kit, and sell off the blower and associated parts.

Here are the turbos we selected to build the kit around, these are Borg Warner EFR 76/70 turbos with high flow internal wastegates and bypass (recirculation) valves built in. These also have stainless exhaust housings, built in boost control solenoids, and EFR turbos contain wheels that are fully milled from forged aluminum, commonly known as “billet”. Cut from custom
forgings, their strength exceeds that which is available from typical bar-stock and also exceeds the material properties of an aluminum casting.

I will post as much information as I can as we move forward on this, most likely I will have some updates and pics next week.

Front mount yes, I don't think my engine will last long at 1000 rwhp lol, so probably not going to try that. My goal is 700 rwhp for my truck anyway. We already have a couple of other customers lined up once we finish testing that already have forged internals that will be making some more power with this kit.

We finally got started on the fabrication and built the driver side turbo manifold first. We built it using Schedule 10 304 stainless tubing which has an 1/8 wall thickness so that it is as strong as possible, and 304 stainless 3/8 header flanges.

We found these T4 adapter flanges online, but we are using larger tubing with the schedule 10 tubing which is a somewhat unique size, so we had to set them up in our CNC and open up the slot diameter, the inner diameter will get ported once the manifold is complete before final assembly.

I thought the truck was being sold in favor of a new vette?

Also, I'm surprised the 2.3 whipple couldn't get you where you wanted to be with the 5.3. I'm glad to see it didn't because this looks like an awesome build, but I'm still surprised.

The main reason wasn't because the Whipple couldn't get me where I wanted to be, just wanted to change everything up and put out another option for our customers. Plus, we have some customers with maxed out Whipple 2.9's in trucks too, and have 102mm throttle bodies that will just not stay open at WOT and goes into reduced power (they don't all have this problem, some do, some don't). This gives us an option to make over 1000hp with a stock throttle body and resolve the throttle closing/reduced power problems. I never had a single issue with my truck with the 102mm throttle body (650 rwhp), but if I did try to get up over about 700-750 rwhp it might start to creep up on me as well. It's always nice to have options...

Most of those 102's with issues are running the LS3 servo motor I bet. Ones coming out soon with a LS2 servo that should rectify some issues. Or at least that's the word on the street.
