Post Well, the time has come

For a new transmission. I can't bitch about it, because I've put over 214k HARD miles on it. I just started noticing it slip in the passing gear and now the 1-2. It's on the way out.... In passing gear, it slips and then grabs, the sprag is shot. What sucks is that I don't have all the $ right now. The dealer wanted $2800 ($700 core) for a reman. 60E with a 36/100k mile warranty. That's the cost w/out any labor, just taking it out the door!!! But, I've got a guy who'll rebuild mine for anywhere between $1000 - $1600 including : labor, rebuild w/ 700R4 steel clutches (thicker than the 60E), "beast" shell, Kevlar band, "usual" upgrades like the servos and accumulators, "new" Daaco converter, shift kit (i think), and whatever else is needed. The guy told me it's rare for a truck to have the amount of miles I do with the "original" tranny. The 90% highway miles I put on it, saved it's life.

I would NEVER go to a dealership for trans repair unless it's under warranty. For $2800, you'll get a better, stronger product from PT's trans sponsors. Sounds like you have a local deal though. Good luck!

You think the rebuild my local guy's going to do is good? My mechanic recommended him and had his trans. rebuilt 5 years ago and not a single problem. The trans. guy has built some for guys running superchargers, big cams, and nitrous without any problems. I feel confident with him and because my mechanic recommended him also. To give you an idea about how much I trust my mechanic....I usually leave him a blank check with his business name and signed, his secretary calls with the price and fills it out. He even called me when his shop got broken into and told me my truck was fine, but they threw my papers out of the glovebox all over the inside looking for things to steal. Most people wouldn't have even called me, nether the less be so honest.

You're a trusting individual. No way in the world I'd leave anyone (even SOME family members) a blank check.

if you have the money get an FLT

I got mine locally built by D&K Transmissions on off of I-45 and 242
for just a rebuilt stock one its like 700-800 dollars for everything!
I got mine built with a beast shell, wider 2-4 band, shift kit, planetaries, and some 4L65E parts.. I forgot how much it cost for that but if you want the number just let me know

I have been driving it for a year now and beating the hell out of it and it doesnt skip a beat!!
