Default thinking of a 402 shortblock. comments

well, i have been giving thought to swapping on over to a 402 shortblock sometime around sep or oct when some bills are paid off and i can afford to drop that kinda money on something not really needed.

i had considered a 408 but don't really see the power difference as a major benefit going that large unless someone can clue me in. plus the all alluminum block that the 402 offers is nice weight savings up front.

i'm thinking of puting a ls6 intake on top with a larger tb. i have a single walbro 255 intake pump but i am unsure if it will be up to the task of handling that size engine with nitrous.

cam choice? stick with the current 224/224 or go larger? these are some things that i will need to work out but ask yalls opinion on.

(yea i know we have a performance section on here but we all know the fastest trucks come from the south)(which says we know a thing or two)

time wise in the quarter, not sure, i don't want to say i want 10's cause i might only run 12's on motor. who knows how it will do.

back to the discussion, i'm looking at something like this but would rather keep it ls1 cause of the electronics. one is a 402 the others are 408

anyway yall get my drift. should i just go with a 6L and call it a day with the current cam and heads or go bigger.

I priced all this a while back and did a lot of stroker reading and found that a lot people, on here at least, put a vote in for the iron block. I guess stregth got the nod over the weight savings. Though I know some people are sleeving the aluminum blocks.

Not that I am an expert, but those lunati bits are droolable, pricey though.

I bet Cody will chime in on this one.

I know someone that has a lq4 6.0 sitting around that came out of a hydrolocked truck. It might be for sale. Of course it would have to be rebuilt, but the crank, block, and heads I believe to be fine. Havent torn it down yet, still crated up.
If you go with one of those short blocks I would spring the cash to be sure it comes with main studs and head studs also.

Beware of Split Cylinders in any block that has been hydrolocked! Have an LS1 in the shop right now with just such a situation.... just a word to the wise..

I agree. I would not sell it or build it without having it inspected first.
