That sucks! When are people going to learn that standing as close to the street as possible when two cars are blazing by at over 100mph in the 1/8th spinning is not such a great idea?

I read some of it before getting bored with a headache. Yeah who knows what really happened? Internet he said/she said. Street racing is dangerous, fact. People do get killed, fact.
Be careful if you participate or spectate...seems like spectators get it more often.

I just found this written by the Associated Press

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — A north Alabama man and a Florida man are each charged with manslaughter in connection with a fatal street racing incident in Birmingham.
Birmingham Police said 27-year-old Brian Murphy of Elkmont and 32-year-old Yardley Potter of Florida were the drivers in the street race responsible for killing 29-year-old Lonnie King, also of Birmingham. Authorities said King was struck and killed while he videotaped illegal race.
Murphy was placed in the Jefferson County Jail without bond and Yardley awaits extradition from Florida. The two were also charged with leaving the scene of an accident.

Police are still searching for another suspect sought in a separate incident at the race. 36-year-old Anthony Lett of Huntsville was shot to death in a dispute over a racing bet.

Wow, that's insane. People take that **** way to seriously. I haven't been to a street racing event in a long time, doesn't look like I'll be going again any time soon.

Well, depending on the dollar amount waged, there's your reason right there. Now, that doesn't make it right, but you see why the incident happened. If the driver said screw that given the fact the bystandard was killed, the person losing the money may have gotten pissed about not getting what he thought should've been a fair win.

Stupid as it was, bets can be handled at a sanctioned track, not on the street. Track owners prohibit that, but I'm sure SOMETHING still takes place.
