I would not go for the porting, pain in the *** to clean and recoil isn't that much to begin with imo. Sights? Do you want it for home defence, then night sights are a must as you will need them for target aquistiion when an intruder is most most likely, lol.

I now have 2 XD's. A Service model with heine pro slant 8's night sights. and a sub compact with factory 3 dot sights.. I love both them. I conceal carry the subcompact, and plan on shootin it in competitions. The XD's fit my hand and point natural for me... if you just want a good pistol, get the service model with the heine night sights. . Dockrocker had a Ported XD and I don't think it has any advantages.

I have a 4" XD40 still stock as the day I bought it. I really like the way it shoots as is but do plan to do some mods to it eventually. I am not a huge fan of the stock sites but have not tried any others though. A friend has some night sites on his Glock that I like but don't know exactly which brand they are. I would like to try the tacticle laser site on mine to see how I like it.

the reason i was looking int the ported model is because it is for home defense and my wife will be shooting it. i have shot a 9mm xd and loved it, but i want some knock down power the lady can feel comfortable with. is there any disadvantage with the night sights during the day?

I did have the ported 4 inch .40 and it was a good gun. Knowing what I know now I would not buy the ported model. It really did not help much and I had to clean it more often. I would HIGHLY suggest the night sites if you can get that option. I opted to get a subcompact and I am more pleased with it than any other pistol I have had. It is also a .40 XD

No, the night sights are easy to see in daylight as well. I can understand wanting less recoil for the little lady to handle. My wife would limp wrist my 9mm and it would jam. She now has a .38 that she has no problem with.

I would get the sub compact for home defense, you are not going to be shooting far away and you could conceal carry it too if you wanted. I have 40 subcompact and it doesnt kick very much at all. She just needs to go to the range and shoot a box or two through it so she isnt afraid of it and is used to shooting and aiming. Im a skinny guy and I can one hand my pistol so Im sure your wife can handle a 40 cal.

If you get a ported barrel. it wont matter what sights you have at night. Once your fire it, all your night vison will be momentarly lost. If your worried about your wife shooting a larger cal weapon, take her shooting more.

For home defense, I would go with a 5in Tactical, It will be more accurate and easier to control.
