As of Thursday Im happy about it, but nervous at the same time. Im in the process of getting my lawn care business off the ground, and working 5-10's and cutting grass on the side was taking all my time. My kids are in town and I wasnt getting home till about 8pm, and I try to keep my weekends free for boat rides or whatever.
At least now Ill have more time, and I really prefer working for myself. Bad thing is I need about 40 yards to make what I was bringing home every week, and I only have about 8 right now. Fixing to start doing a good bit more advertising, so HOPEFULLY I wont have to go back in the plants except maybe from October till the end of the year. Id wayyyyy rather being in a duck blind all week during hunting season
Told the ole lady Ill have to use the mud boat and make some of my coonass hobbies work for some money. The DWF is paying $5 per nutria tail, I think frog legs are bringing about $7lb, and a few other meats I can think of

Thanks man. I need it. As far as I figure, with my unemployment, and the yards I have now, I can pay my bills, except for gas lol, but I dont like paying bills, I enjoy wakeboarding/boat riding on the weekends, boiling crabs, crawfish, cooking etc. Itll all work out for the better, just makes me a little nervous when my bring home dropped about $1200 per week

mat, been there done that. mowed grass from 14 years old and sold the business about 2 months ago...was mowing about 30-40 lawns per week up until i got to college and had to cut back. great, easy money...and a helluva workout. mowing put me through college and kept me in nice cars.

heres the only problem. great money during the summer, living in the ruts during the winter. during the winter i made most of my money with a pressure washer, cleaning gutters and picking up leaves, but it didnt compare to mowing.

good luck with it.

Good luck Matt. I have a buddy that started his own gig out of high school that has a rather large company here in Chicago now. It takes time but whatever it takes to make a buck you know!

I had a lawn business for 5 years and I sold my company last summer. I started it in highscool and when I sold it I had just over 50 accounts(about 20 were commercial) which after paying someone equated to about 2k/week....in season only of course. It was too time consuming while in school, plus this big company threw me an offer I couldn't resist. The key is to find big neighborhoods with little yards and just get as many yards in one area time=money. Advertise with fliers, signs, phonebook, magnetic truck signs, and homeowner's association newsletters. There are even forums for lawn businesses lawnsite.com was my favorite lots of info and used equipment for sale. Good luck
