What I want to know is did whoever took those pictures actually call in the game warden to trank the poor thing and have the arrow removed? If not that would be as criminal as if the original shot was on purpose.

I agree. I have seen similar shots taken. At 30+ yards, it is difficult to tell how the animal will react to the sound of the bow being fired. It takes time for the arrow to reach the target as it isn't nearly half as fast as a bullet. I dont bow hunt yet but I do hunt with a lot of bow hunters. I once saw a buddy's deer of which he was aiming for the kill zone (heart, lungs, etc) but the deer jumped and contorted in such a way, the arrow hit the deer in the eye. It ran 40 yards, hit a tree, then fell over dead. He was like WTF? I'm just saying that wierder things have happened unintentionally. I had a deer move its head on me as soon as i pulled the trigger with a rifle at 100 yards. The deer fell, then got up with its jaw missing. I felt horrible and pumped another round into its head. It wasnt intentional but yet it happened.

im a bow hunter. chances are that the shooter wasnt aiming at the head. deer are faster than you think. they can duck an arrow flying 330FPS at ranges less than 20 yards.

the fact that the arrow didnt pass all the way through makes me think that the shooter was shooting a low poundage bow so the arrow would be slower, giving the deer time to completely turn around/be in a different county by the time the arrow gets there.

a neighbor of mine shot a doe in the eye. aiming at the shoulder on a 15 yard shot with a fast bow and she had time to duck and turn around just in time to catch it in the eye (where her shoulder was).

heres an example of how fast they are
