I love these late model motors and drive trains but if that's a factory big block 1/2 ton it's probably pretty rare by now. a good tune and shine is all I'd do to it. The no overdrive sux though

Let me know if you need advice on anything... I had a 72 model from high school (hence the screen name) until it was stolen last year. The weight on my longbox was a little over 3800 lbs without my fat *** in it, not too bad for a heavy half truck.

Also, as far as caltracs, does the truck have leaves or coils/long arms? Coils would be great for you, lots of options as far as weight transfer and adjustment. It also looks like you already have discs up front (5 lug wheels), which makes a world of difference, good luck with the project, the 67-72s are beautiful trucks.

I believe it has coils/shocks on the rear, but one funny thing I just noticed was that it has 5 lug in the front and 6 lug in the rear? would it be hard to swap in some 5 lug rotors in the back? I dont want to have trouble trying to get some wheels, I know I want the torque thrust II for it when ever im ready to get them, and most that I have seen are 5 lug's...

You'll have to keep an eye out for a 5 lug rear (71-72) or get your axles re-drilled and get 71-72 drums. Or if you're talking rear discs, you can just get a 5 lug kit and re-drill. Also, for safety's sake, make sure you have a disc brake proportioning valve.
