correct.... as long as you have have the salvage title and you first get the truck up to acceptable "reconstructed" status (able to pass safety inspection) you should have no problem getting a title issued that will allow tags.

I bought a salvage truck from north dakota. When I registered it in Montana the title came back clean as a whistle with no inspection done.

I just purchased a vehicle with salvage title from New Mexico which has been repaired and tagged in New Mexico---had body damage. Took the salvage title to get a MS tag and to get a rebuilt or clean title. I was told that the vehicle can only get a rebuilt or normal title in New Mexico before getting a MS tag which I told the tax assessor was ridiculous since I'll drive the vehicle in MS.
I've been researching and find that the county tax assessor is totally wrong even after they called the revenue office which told them this.
Since the vehicle is now almost like new except for items I will be doing like paint and the like I see no reason I can not title it here.
Anyone else gone thru this?

I know this is a late reply, it can be inspected by a state official at one of the major DMV's and as long as it meets the Mississippi standards, it can be a clean and clear title.
