bad news first.
the cam has a lift of 578, the LS6 springs are only good to 570 and thats pushing it.
your stock pushrods were way too long, if thier not bent i would bet on a few lifters being damaged as well.
if your pistons are fine you are going to need a new set of heads, or a good used set.
if you do not have a set of 7.4 pushrods to work with the G2-3 cam you will need a good stock set while you place the stock cam back in.
tomorrow is clumbus day, postoffice and banks are closed, so will a few other places that see it as a holiday to take off.
right now make a parts list of what you need.
i did my head gaskets in one day all by my self so i know it can be done with the help of a friend.

Sorry, also changed to 7.4" chromemoly hardened pushrods. New LS6 springs, or so I was led to believe
I was under the impression that stock pushrods were 7.4"....at any rate that is what I installed new. The LS6 springs are what LPE sells with this cam, so the specs may be close but its what they recommend, but some 918's wouldn't hurt. LPE quotes the LS6 spring to .580......Pappy where did you see .570?
I was able to get in touch with an engine builder (also builds and races drag boats) through some contacts of mine. The truck is off to his shop in the morning.
Pappy, re: pistons and heads, you are right on track and I was thinking the same. This is exactly what I spoke with the engine guy about for a while this afternoon. He is gonna call me in the afternoon tmorrow and let me know what all took a hit and get it fixed right. I am working full time all week and packing and have other plans this coming weekend so I am really needing to have someone else do the work.
Thanks for the replies. I will update once I hear from the builder, to bounce what he reports to get some second opinions. My guess is new lifters and springs and 2 or three valves. Hopefully the pistons made it okay and we'll see about the heads (used 317's with a little P&P with boost in mind for the future maybe? hmmmm).

My wonder still, is what I did that resulted in this? Why would it run perfectly for a week? Possibly I was sold a bad spring which failed and jacked the rest? What is locking the lifters?
I want to make sure this doesn't happen again as this is my DD and I went with a mild cam to keep things reaonable

Maybe some one else knows better than I, but the vendor sites list 7.4 as stock. I didn't think that with this cam the difference is too much different than the stock centerline.

for a long time no body was sure of the max lift of the LS6 spring, but since the LS6 cam came with a lift of 550, that was a safe number to use the springs on other cams.
so when i swaped out my cam a couple of years ago and needed a new set of springs, Summit had them listed as a max lift of 570 at 6 bucks each, and GM performance had them listed at a max lift of 570 and 8.99 each.
so i ordered a set from summit, saved a few bucks and got free shipping.

i do not know any better, so i like sticking my hand in to the fire.
but for the most part just about every body posted harden pushrods @ 7.4 and 918 springs as their combo to go with their cam of chouse.
allot also have this listed in their sigs, hell even i was told that i was going to need the 7.4 pushrods and the 918 would be better then the LS6.

when i got them it was one spring at a time and a max of 570.
here it is a set of 16, and they show a max of 550.
yellow LS6 springs.

i have a few ls6 springs/retainers/locks and maybe even valves that you can have. come pick them up. i live at 1960 and cypresswood now. if i wasnt going out of town this weekend i would pull your heads for you. did you try turning the motor over to see if the valves would close? i might have a brand new head gasket for you too.
