so, the wife and i are leaving a friends house last night at about 11pm and i must admit - while i was by no means near the legal limit... i was a tad tipsy.
so, im mmob and being extra careful and didnt even notice this beast until i was sitting right next to it: a 2003 blue chevy silverado with sidepipes and a rumble that shook MY mirrors.
i was turning right and he was sitting waiting on the light to change. when i pulled up next to him, i heard his exhaust over the radio and rolled my window down to get a better listen.
i pulled one of those 'hi! im a bag of douche!' moves and hit my head on the headliner when i craned my neck to see better, so when i look up this 20 something yr old and his cute gf are already laughing.
great.
so, i laugh too and give the guy a thumbs up for what is probably the best sounding truck ive heard in a long time. (to clarify: in tx its all about the glasspacks apparently)
i turn right and give him a little blip as my tips point his way and as soon as i do...
i see headlights behind me. then, as i slowed and waited to pace they turned into taillights with a 'PPSSSHHHHHHHH" sound.
mmuuuhhahhahahhahaa
now we're on this little 2 laner, just the 4 of us and no other cars on this strip of road. so, we slow down and stop and for the life of me, i couldnt hear what this dude was saying he had in his truck.
i asked 'is that turbo?'
'no, its just a turbo' is what i thought he said.
'oh, so its just the turbo?!' a little louder this time.
'nah... just the turbo setup!!'
this time my wife looked at me and kind of cranked her head to the right, as if to say "huh?"
so i decided to end the conversation with a run from the dig and gave the appropriate notice (read: mash the go pedal)
he smiles and asked where i was headed.
'north' i told him and got a thumbs up indicating he would follow.
so, i drop it from the dig and so does he... on our way to get in trouble.
i was very surprised at both vehicles, actually - mine for keeping up with a [possible] turbo silverado and his for not destroying a mostly stock LS1.
we stayed neck and neck through 80 and had to turn again to access the freeway. once on, we had about 400 ft of empty road, then traffic. i slowed to 60, dropped into 3rd and motioned for him to 'honk it off!'
he did, he jumped a little - even on his own honks - and we were off.
all the way to 110+ we were exactly even. no pulls, even when i shifted 3-4it seemed that he was doing the same, maintaining the level playing field the whole way. just as we started to get into 'need to brake now' range of the traffic ahead i realized that i would leave this guy in a race to 140+.
unfortunately for me, i had to call it and let him go as we edged up to other cars. the wife was telling me "go get him!!" but better judgement and a slight smell of alky on my breath made me turn it down.
great race, really nice kid and WOW what a truck. made me realize that its time for a ****ing power adder.
if anyone in houston knows this kid... PLEASE tell him i said 'whaddawp?!'

If it was an extended cab then I know who he's talking about. I met the guy at Oreilly's in spring about a month ago. The truck fits the description, it's an STS'd, cammed LQ4. I remember because his side-exit exhaust setup was pretty funky looking with the STS kit. He had never heard of PT.net, or any other forum for that matter, and he said it's never been to the track. He DID say that he knew Allen Nelson though...I remember that.
He must have been drunk cuz the chick he was with when I talked to him ooglay...unless it's a different person here.
