ive seen the bearings after being put through the abuse machine thingy and royal purple made the mobile look like crap...BUT that doesnt mean that m1 isnt enough for a motor. my 5.3 did great on m1, and TONS of members have great results with m1. i just kept up with the rp on this engine after seeing the internals at 100k and 120k miles. cross hatches in all of the cyl boars like the motor just came off of the line. the heads were also still shining inside of the ports. the oil consumption usually turns the inside of the heads a black greasy color.

bmw says it is ok to go 1 year or 15,000 miles as long as you use synthetic. thats what i am going to go with.

in the chevy trucks i go 5,000-7000 between changes and thats with the cheap oil. the truck will be rusted into the ground and on it's 2nd or 3rd tranny before that engine is worn out.

I just change when the light says I should. Usually ends up being between 5-6000 miles. I've been using M1, but am thinking about being a cheap *** and switching to Supertech synthetic.

Royal Purple is a waste of money IMO. I thought about using amsoil too, but once again the tight *** in me couldn't justify the cost. I've yet to have an engine failure do to the kind of oil I was using be it regular dino oil or syn. It mostly just marketing crap anyway.

Wow, I change my oil between 2500 and 3k. I like it to look like honey going in and coming out. I change my oil twice as often as I wash the truck. I have changed out to many customer's engines to save 15.00 on an oil change. Royal purple is not a waste, Its far better than most oils. I am too cheap for that stuff. Sorry to say, I think some of you are pushing your luck

yep, GM put a BUNCH of money into that meter and that's what I go by. I changed the oil very early to M1 and have gone by the meter since. I usually change it around 20-25% also. I'm only at 22k miles but have changed it 3-4 times and the meter is currently saying somewhere between 40-50%.
