Awesome. I am willing to troubleshoot with you all day long if need be. Well, not literally all day long, but, until it gets the issue esolved. However, if your Geeks don't have the time to research it, I would be fine if you wanted to delete my account and have me create a new account the "correct" way. I understand that most of these forums are run by volunteers with real, paying, jobs.

If you do delete my account, please make it so I can re-register with my current name. Thanks.

I can't stay logged in either. And I've tried this on many computers. What's going on?

It logs me out after no certain time as well. It seems to happen more often in chrome than ie. Almost unusable in chrome, so I must switch to ie to check messages, or post normally.

Update:

Not 5 minutes a go, I attempted to log in with the traditional Username and Password method and I experienced the same problem that I reported in the OP.

A few minutes later, I logged in using the Facebook link and it seems to have kept me logged in.

I am going to poke around the site for a bit and see if I stay logged in.

ETA: Yeah. I seem to be staying logged in using the Facebook method.

So it seems that the Facebook log in has some sort of time out feature that requires re-logging in once in a while, BUT, I am actually able post and browse without getting logged out with every click.

Interesting. If I am away from the site for a few hours, when I come back I am still logged in. I'll stay logged until I click User CP.

jaymez, did you register via facebook?

you can stay logged in, if you log in via facebook each time?

the username & password to set for yourself in userCP after registering via facebook will not let you remain logged in when you try to log in that way?

Is this all correct?

thanks a lot, sorry about your issues, but this will help us fix whatever the problem is.

cheers,
robb

When I first joined this site, I logged in using the Facebook link. Any time I log in with that link, I can stay logged in for a couple of hours at a time. Afterwards, if I click on a link, suddenly my status will be changed to not being signed in. It's mildly annoying, but, I can at least enjoy the site and use most of the functionality.

If I log in using the username and password I created in the CP, I will be logged out every time I click on something. It doesn't matter if it's a link to the next page in a thread or a link within a sub forum. Posting, using this log in method, requires logging at least two times. Once to start the reply and again to end the reply and submit the post.

This is the only forum I have this problem on and it's across multiple devices. Personally, I have seen this problem before on another forum my girlfriend is an admin on. That forum does not have the Facebook log in. On that forum, which is built on phpBB, the problem was caused by a security setting, intended to block out spammers, was set too high. They were having the problem with one, specific, ISP. However, I have experienced this on your site with multiple ISP's.

In order to both alive the user's problem AND combat spammers after the setting was lowered, the CAPTCHA was replace by a simple math problem. While the SPAM bots can translate the CAPTCHA, apparently, they have not advanced to the point of simple addition.

hi Jaymez,

Thanks to your description of events, we were able to track down the root cause of this issue. We believe that it's now fixed.

Can you please let me know one way, or the other in this thread.

Thanks for your patience, and assistance.

cheers,
robb

Robb,

On my first visit to the site today, I showed as logged in when the main forum page loaded, however, as soon as I clicked User CP I was logged out. On my last visit here the last night, I had signed in using my Facebook log in.

I just tried logging in using my UID/PW combo and experienced the same problem that I started the thread about. As soon as I clicked on the link to this thread, I was logged out.

Even if a solution were found where when I first visit the site I showed logged out and then had to log in using the FB log in before I attempted to view my CP, I would consider the issue resolved with a work around. I don't mind logging in each time I visit the site. The beauty of Firefox is the UID and Password fields are pre-populated so it just takes a couple of mouse clicks.
Before composing this message, I logged in under the Facebook log in.
