Ok Im new to the truck thing. Always been into cars..just let go of my gto...selling one of my C5s and getting ready to buy a Truck. had a lightning a while back but only for a few months. the main reason I want a truck is for towing my Z06 to track. But the speed freak that i am doesn't allow me to buy any truck.

My question is are the Regency RST and Joe Gibbs trucks capable of towing? From the ones i have seen there is no hitch...are these trucks simply not practical as a towing vehicle? Or would i be better served buy buying a SS or Diesel?

an rst is just a fancy single cab truck with a programmer, exhaust, cai and shorty headers..you can get a hitch for them..i toe my dirt track car and all my extra tires and tools and weighs 12,000 loaded and look at my sig for what i got..and it actually pulls pretty damn good

 

I personaly like the looks of the RST. If i go that route it will probably end up with a built motor or boost. just wondering where the hitch goes and if there is any hacking to the truck..

 

I may be biased but the SSS will give you the extra room of an extended cab and be a relaible tower. Slap a MP112 on there and it should be more than enough truck for the job you are looking at.

 

the hitch can be bolted right up.... you should already come with a 3.73 with a limited slip that will go boom with the first hint of more power

 

Lol so hitch bolts right up below bumper just like regular right? just trying to picture cause rear bumper on RST looks much lower..and what is options for rear end to hold more power?

 

remember most rst trucks are 5speed and arent easily modified, better clutch which leads to slave cylinders failing, etc.

the limited slip in the rear is the weak link, get an aftermarket lsd, like a eaton lsd or a detroit tru-trac. if you are really putting a lot of power through it ( like 600rwhp+) in 2wd ( 4x4 doesnt need a swap) you may need a 14bolt rear axle swap

if you like the rst for looks, get it but definetely not for performance. if you dont like everything about it, dont get it get a stock rcsb truck and mod it to suit.

yes the rst and joe gibbs will tow just fine, they are just purpose built "sport trucks" and their towing capcacity isnt as strong of a selling point as their looks and 1/4 mile et.

rst actually has roll pan but a normal hitch will work on it.

 

I personally just like the looks of RST. I am not buying for performance reasons..but that will be changed by me. lol just wanted to make sure that they are suited for towing and won't have to hack anything to get it to tow.

 

will you be using the 4pin harness or a 7pin harness, cuz im not too sure that the rst has the 7pin

 

remember alot of rst's are 5speed (nv3500) which is not exactly a performance trans from what i hear
