I am thinking of buying a Silverado SS. Is there a certain year model that is preferred? If so, why? 2wd or awd? This truck will be used as a daily driver and also to tow an open car hauler to the drag strip. Any suggestions on mods that would yeild better mpg and performance? Thanks.

i would buy any ss. i like them all. but the black will be hard to keep clean.

 

06 SSS.... doesnt matter which year they're all great performers, but the AWD has ridiculous take off. 03-04 are AWD,05 had AWD and 2WD, 06-07Classic only 2WD .... if it's just gonna be a hauler Intake,LT's,exhaust,tune,etc,etc. basic bolt-ons will work good. good luck and post pic's when ever u get it...

Thanks for the feedback guys. I have heard that the awd models are much slower than the 2wd models. How bad are they? Alot slower or just slightly slower? As far as mods go, in addition to headers, intake, and tune, is there a camshaft that will give me more performance without sacrificing mpg? Also, would you guys recommend changing convertors or not?

 

awd slower , the no spin hole shot out weighs the 2wd version weight difference IMO

 

They run about the same in the 1/4. AWD is pretty good is you ask me. I love the crazy take-off with my maggie. I don't know if I would invest a lot into mods if you just plan to haul with it. A new tune should help with MPG.

 

Yeah if u get a cam for it there is no way u want sacrifice some MPG, but if u get that and then a tune ur MPG might stay the same...

get a 2wd SSS..my cousin has an 06 2wd SSS and he says he walks all over the AWD SSS

 

I recommend AWD if its a vehicle your going to drive regularly. Nice if you need to do any mild off roading, dealing with snow or heavy rain. Intake, headers, exhaust and a tune will usually get you better gas mileage.
