Moving the idler up to relive belt tension (effectively lengthening the belt) then going to a shorter belt to add that tension back makes no sense. The purpose of the adjustable idler is to get the tensioner in its optimal range to manage belt deflection as it stretches with load.

You’re right, I had a brain fart there. He still needs a shorter belt, I’ve been in his position before and that helped. HD tensioner fixed it for good though.
