I figured I needed a way to document this little journey(mostly for myself). It stated out in March of 21 while I was looking for a single cab truck to start messing around with. I had been cruising Facebook marketplace for a few months and stumbled across a clean (or so I thought) 05 Joe Gibbs Silverado. It was exactly what I was looking for. Low miles, black, single cab, short bed. Never heard of the Gibbs until I found this truck. Took the 7hr drive up to look at it and ended up buying it. Got it back home and was happy enough with what I had to start with. For a little while. Then I started noticing more and more issues. I knew the paint wasn't great the badges were faded and the wheels were in need of refinishing. But had no idea that bed had been wrecked and that the supercharger had been removed. I thought it was originally just N/A.(some were) And so begins the process.
Couple photos of when I picked it up.
The day after getting home. Gave it a good cleaning and went over the whole truck. That's when I started noticing a few issues. Totally blame myself for not taking a better look when buying it, but what can you do now. Live and learn I guess.
At this point the truck seemed to be a pretty decent looking 20' truck. Get closer and you start noticing things. That bugs me. Started with noticing the tailgate and bed not quite lining up correctly. Can of worms being opened. Went to a couple local body shops, truck had been hit in the bed that I actually messed up the inner part of the bed. Had a replaced bedside and was repainted. Not what I was wanting to hear. So the search for a new bed begun. All local beds were **** and rusty. Ended up finding one about 500 miles away. 1k weekend round trip coming up. Expensive weekend if you add in the speeding ticket.
Now the game plan was coming into motion. Get the bed on, have the whole truck PDR'd and painted, get the wheels refinished and start enjoying it. While I was waiting for time to get the new bed put on, I found a new tailgate with the Gibbs wing.SCORE
Got everything installed and drove it every once in a while like pictured. My body shop was very backed up so I had no choice to wait....and wait....and wait some more.
Finally the day came, got the call from the body shop saying they were ready for me to drop it off. While it was in the body shop, figured it was a good time to get the wheels refinished. Dropping it off and pic of the wheels all jacked up.
Got the wheels back. Came out fantastic! Could not be happier. The shop was even able to do the hyper silver coloring. Also stopped by the body shop to check her out. It had only been a week and I was anxious to get it back. It had just started getting broken down. Haha
I was in for a long wait.
While waiting on progress to made, I started ordering some parts. Little factory pieces here or there, updated gm valve covers, catch can, American racing longtube headers to name a few. Also scored a NOS set of Gibbs badges. Wasn't sure if I was going to use them or not. Pic of what the badges looked like that were on the truck. Not great.
