Alright, after doing a lot of local searching, I found an LQ9 engine block that comes with valve covers, scorpion rocker arms, and the timing cover for only $200. I'm going to pick that up in a few weeks and start with my build.
Now any suggestions on what I should do to it?

Hey Red, when u did ur T56 swap did u have to buy anything else other than the transmission itself to put it on? And was it a T56 of an ls1?

I just finished my t-56 swap 3 weeks ago, my t-56 was out of 02 TransAm it has a Keisler front shift conversion done to it which moves the shift linkage up to the secondary port plate which is in the middle instead of at the rear of the tranny, it sits about 3" back from the stock 5 spd so i cut alittle out of the floorboard so it could fit, the Keisler front shift allowes to be able to keep the middle seat!! Heres a couple of pics of wat it looks like installed

The tranny X-member bolted right up, but the driveshaft needed to be shortened 3" from 61" down to 58" and had to swap yolks.. had to do a little wiring to the tranny, and cross tune the pcm with the 02 T.A. tranny files

I reused my flywheel of my stock 5 spd, all I had to do was spend $46 at local NAPA shop to get it turned, I also reused my factory master cylinder. My t-56 already had a slave cylinder on it, the connections are different into the tranny from 5-spd to 6-spd. (On that note I did have to customize my hydraulic line) truck hydraulic line is about 3' long f-body is about 1' 6" long so it wouldnt fit. I had both connectors cut off from the truck line and f-body line that went into tranny, and had the f-body end crimped on to the truck hydraulic line by local hydraulic/hose shop $35. Hose fits and and functions properly.

sounds good, I even got the RST boot to cover the original hole plus what I had to cut, im still workin on my shifter stuff to reuse the rst shifter as well.. got a bolt that fits the threads but gota figure out the angle to weld to the bracket to go to the t-56 shift linkage.. Im also still in the process of getting everything back together, cant wait to finally drive her around!! hopefully a couple weeks an ill have her all done! Its hard to get stuff done when u work on the road..
