Truck is badass! But is there any reason as to why you went with an LQ4 instead of an LQ9? I know the LQ4's have lower compression and iron heads whereas the LQ9 has higher compression and aluminum heads.

When I end up picking up my truck I think I'm going to go with a H/C/I 6.0L-probably an LQ9 (I love spray)

Ultimately I want to end up with a H/C/I + spray 408 and a T-56

when i bought the motor it was a 03 gm surplus motor with 0miles on it for $2500 shipped. i couldnt pass it up. ill be puttin some milled 243's on and bring the compression up to 11:1 - 11.8:1 and go from there. the nice thing bout the dished pistons in this case is i wont have to worry bout valve to piston clearance.

right now im just tryin to get money saved so i can get the heads. with the valve job and the milling its gonna run me like $1600 i think. then i the next step will be to spec a cam for the setup to get more torque out of this beast. someone had mentioned to me a reverse split cam for a more torque based setup, but im not sure i thought that setup was for f.i. setups. so ill have to look into that a bit more.

my dream setup is a 454 lsx and full built t56 maybe through RPM. i know their setups will take some abuse.

I am familiar with the different small block GM engines, and I may sound like a newb when I ask this, but why do people go with the truck motors (LQ series) instead of car engines like the LS2, LS3, or the smaller LS6.

I know parts are interchangeable, but wouldn't it just be easier to start with an LS2 to begin with over an LQ motor?

From what I have been told, (not sure if its true or not) but the blocks in the trucks are iron and they take more abuse than the aluminum ones found in the vettes and camaros.

He is right. But you can go withany of them. The ls3 would be the best bet for power and durablity right now. But you would have to either change out the computer for the vvvt/dod or replace those internal parts with reagular parts

How about a built LS2? Do people with TBSS's usually stick with those bottom ends or do they go with the LQ series?

most of them are staying with the ls2 block, unless they are goin all out then they usually pick up a lsx block and forge the rotating assembly. it comes down to cost and the sleeper look with alot of the pick up guys. i would love to have a ls2 stuck in my truck. but i grabbed what i could get my hands on.
