Put in my 5th battery since February
#1
In Feb, my stock battery was bad after sitting for a few months during the build up. I replaced it with a 725amp Optima Red top. I've had that battery replaced under the optima warrantee 4 times now. Today, the thing was bad again so I refused to take another 725amp red top and made them give me the 750amp yellow top / deep cycle battery.
It's hard to imagine that 725amps is too small for the truck (stock stereo even, and a larger alt, but running a WBO2 and several gauges, cutout, etc.). Anyone think it being too small could be the root of the problem?
I know of another SSS owner that has been through 9 batteries this year (at GMs expense). Anyone else having weird electrical glitches like this?

Im having the same problem with my truck. Did you have to go back to the place where you bought the battery?? Did you have a reciept?? How did you make your claim? Im going with a larger alt as well although I had mine tested and its fine

I know the stock batteries are the side mount type and I'm guessing those optimas are too. I worked on a car once(bonneville) that had the side mount type and the terminals would break internally. We ended up having to put the top-terminal type on and bought a lead adapter to go to the side. Never had a problem after that. Hopefully that yellow top will work better though.

I am having the same problem with my SS, been through 4 batteries since I purchased my truck which was November 03. I have been thinking about maybe trying a new alternator and see if that helps out any.

I would only use that as an all else fails option because that might not be your problem. Im not really familiar with what makes the optimas such a good battery. I personally just use a John Deere when I need new ones because I can get them cheap where I work. I would think that there is something else coming into play here because all three of yall that are having problems seem to have a little extra kick in yalls trucks.

Is there an excessive drain on the battery when the vehicle is off? There shouldn't be any more than 50 milliamps...you can test it with a multimeter (ammeter setting) installed in series with the negative battery cable. Disconnect the cable, install a jumper wire between the cable and battery terminal, then install the multimeter, then remove the jumper. (If you just disconnect the battery cable and install the meter in series, the voltage spike and jump in current may blow the fuse in the meter)
