mike if you have to send the pcm back to nelson make sure you pay to have it unlocked. That way when you go to the dyno or somethin gin your area small changes can be made to tweak in the afr.

I know money is getting tight with all the other stuff you just bought but HPT is a GREAT idea right now. If you had it now, we could know more about what is going on a either find the problem or tweak in the tune. And yes on top of HPT a wideband is HUGE help as well.

My fear right now is nelsons tune is in closed loop and its going to try to hit 14.7 at idle even if the VE table is off. if we could read the afr of the truck in open loop we would be able to see if the ve table is close enough and is not the problem right now.

Tuning is something i just, just started in and only what zippy lets me do at this point as he is teaching me slowly and not letting me get in over my head. If nelson is on this board maybe he could tell us, or any tuner, if the VE table is way off and the truck is in closed loop can this horrible idle, dying problem still be the tune? I've only tuned open loop SD at this point.

Joe you mentioned the rockers before, although a mistake can be made anywhere, i'm pretty sure they are correct. I always rotate the motor with the push rods in but not the rockers so i can see the valve events. When the exhaust rocker moves about half of its lift i torque the intake rocker down, and the reverse for the intake rocker. This way i know the lifter is on the base circle of the cam and you get the true torque your looking for not false because of spring pressure on an open valve. And just to make sure, i go through every rocker twice to make sure i was really on the base cirlce of the cam lobe.

Does anyone know the plunger travel on a ls7 lifter? is it the same .125 of the stock gm lifters and the cts-vr lifter? The preolad was set at .08 on this motor which is way more then i like but had to be set that way due to the push rods we had.

Brad
thanks.. i am 99% sure im going to order HPT and an unlocked tune by friday.
i love that we have such a vast community but we're up against a wall here for something we cant adjust without it.
its an expense to be sure.. however.. i think the issues at hand warrant it and I can now justify it in the household budget..

I had to two foot my truck after H/C swap...only untill I got my tuned PCM back. HPT is an investment...try to find someone local to go in with you...will keep the cost down, once you have it...you'll be like what did I sign up for!
