I'm saying you should weld the water pump pulley on because with the 8 rib system and a overdrive crank pulley the water pump pulley will come off under high boost so you need to have it welded on and joe at left coast 32 sells a water pump cover nut that screws on the water pump to hide the weld... and please do not weld the water pump pulley on factory pump that is already installed on truck you can damage the motor....and that is what I mean....just trying to save you some headaches....At 18lbs of boost my w.p. pulley came off at 120mph and went through my hood.

 

I am talking about how welding the pulley damages your main bearings. That's where you lost me. I know the pulley can come off, mines welded and I've welded a handful of others.

 

when my pulley came off I had a friend weld it back on and when I went to go home no oil pressure pulled motor and sent it to motor builder and he said by welding on W.P. on motor I damaged all the bearings cost me big time it was a new texas speed motor.

Tells us more about this. What type of welding was used? Where did you ground the the welder too? This is first ive heard of this, seems everyone does it right on the motor without issues.

 

Sounds like the builder was looking for a way to blame the issue on you. I do not see welding the the WP pulley transferring enough heat through the WP shafts, into the WP housing, through the WP bolts and gaskets, and into the bearings. You would have a ruined the WP with that much heat. Plus the coolant would have absorbed a good amount of it way before the heat got to the block. IMO
