What is this little red box called that is inline with the battery and alternator? I can't find it anywhere and mines obviously a little corroded. It actually caused the wire coming from the alternator to the red box to corrode so much it broke, and I also had my fuel pump hot wired onto the post on the back of the alternator so the truck died when it happened in my driveway. Also my efans are wired inside that box, but the wires still look okay on that harness at least. I didn't realize why the pump had no power since I never actually opened the damn thing up to look inside
Corrosion can increase the resistance and cause excessive heat. In this case someone probably used an undersized wire and the excessive heat killed the plastic.
the starter got stuck on for probably 30 seconds before I could disconect the battery back when I did the 80e swap and I bet it got that box super hot and melted it then and it's just gotten worse over time. Truck is 17 years old this year, so I'm sure some moisture has made its way in there as well.
Personally, I would be running a bunch of accessories off of that post if it were me. I'd give them dedicated power sources or wire directly to battery positive.

that post is basically dedicated power. + battery post goes directly to that block. and the alternator feeds back directly through that block.
