Default Wheel Cleaners

Alright, so i'm having trouble getting my wheels back to the like new shine. i've used mothers powerball and mothers' all wheel tire cleaner to get the brake dust off, but the front ones especially are still gritty. i know i probably need to take them off the truck and use some good ol' elbow grease to get it off, but i don't have a jack or jackstand right now. i know leaving them on during winter probably didn't help, but i was wondering what i'm missing. thanks for the help

if they're chrome, you might have started taking the chrome finish off. i use the turtle wax wheel cleaner.
