Default what to torque bogart wheels to??

Last week I pulled into a local cruise in and had a guy come up to me and hand me 2 lugnuts. He said he seen it come off my truck as I drove by. I parked, walked around the truck and noticed there were 4 lugnuts missing, 1 was loose and 1 was tight. I torqued them at 75 ft. Lbs. and only put about 30 miles on them basically from my house, to the cruise in were I found them already flinging off. I found that f body guys were torquing them to thsoe specs and thought it would also be ideal for a 6 lug truck. So what's the real torque. Obviously mine is wrong and it could of been catastrophic.

140 lb/ft is GM spec. I torque mine to 120.

Agreed, in our shop we do anything that is a half ton to 125 ft lbs.

But really if all were done at 100ft lbs they would be okay, an even torque is better than under torqued.

i always torque the wheels to factory specs aftermarket or not. 140 is where gm thinks it needs to be so i put them there.

If you are going to torque the wheels to or around factory spec, make sure you re-torque the wheels 30-50 miles after. Factory spec is often too loose because the studs have been over torqued in the past. Therefore they are stretched/weekened and aren't going to hold 140 ft. lbs. as well as they should.
