Vinyl Wrap? Anyone done it?
#1
Alright guys, the paint on my truck is in kind of rough shape, so I was thinking of putting a flat black vinyl wrap on it, the truck is black now. Also would be getting my wheels powder coated black. Anyone have any experience or an idea of how much I should order?

Vinyl is a much better product for durability over the plastidip. As MUCH easier to remove after long term use. My truck was wrapped, but done professional so i cannot comment on vinyl quanitity

I have thought about plasti dipping but I decided it just will not look professional. It has no clear peel but it has several scratches and things. There is a crack in the drivers door that Im worried about most. I was going to get body filler and sand the paint down and body fill the area and sand that smooth then put the vinyl on. I may start a thread on it when I start. It will be this summer sometime.

I've been looking into it myself and plastidipping sounded awesome, but now I'm leary of it. Havent seen a truck or car up close yet with it. Dont know anyone in my area with half a brain to do it, and with as many race car teams as i know around here i can get the vinyl wrap for the low low.

Yeah, I found some on ebay for a pretty good deal. There are youtube videos of people with no mechanical type experience whatsoever doing it on their beamers so I think I could tackle it pretty easily. Not saying Im a master mechanic or anything but I know I know more than them.. Also, thats not an assumption. They say it in their videos. So either it's not hard to do at all or there are alot of lucky wise guys around haha

I had my yukon vinyl wrapped. It will show up deeper scratches/cracks in the paint. Cool thing is - if you wanted to just do a matte black you could buy the vinyl yourself (3m with the air grooves in it). It is awesome. I had a local distributor demo it for me and he took a 1' square piece wadded it up like a piece of paper and applied it with no signs of creases. That stuff it amazing. Clean surface - heat gun and some squeegees (sp) You can wrap front to back then slice the vinyl at the seams.
