Vinyl Wrap
#1
Anybody wrapped their own truck? Got a round eye I'm looking to do because I simply can't afford what paint costs these days. It's ridiculous! I feel fairly confident in my abilities to wrap it myself, but I'm having a hell of a time finding a color close to the Indigo Blue it currently is. Everything is either way to shiny like candy or flip flop color, or it's just a dull kinda blue/purple. Thought I would get some input from the peanut gallery.

I considered wrapping mine in brushed steel blue before having it painted. With the peeling clearcoat the prep work would have been the same to wrap as to paint so I opted for the latter. I understand the surface has to be smooth for wrap to adhere well which is why I strayed away from it. However, with good paint, a competent helper and liberal lube; I can't see wrapping a vehicle to be that difficult. Pricing out someone wrapping it for you may be as much as a decent paint job though.

I'm BA with a rattle can, but I've never sprayed anything with a proper rig. That does looks like the only option to get the right color without it looking like something from tokyo drift or a delivery truck, SIGH....

wraps in the sun last for about 3 years and then depdning on the quality, its easier to replace the panels then remove the burnt on sticker.
i had a truck about a year ago that had a wrap so burnt on the hood, it was easier and cheaper to replace the hood than attempt to spend hours removing the sticker
maaco every year has decent sales, and if you prep the vehicle yourself, you can get a pretty nice job done that will last longer than a wrap, and probable cost the same..
