Default Tailgate Cap

Hey guys, I was looking at my tailgate cap last night thinking about how cool it will look when it's gone. I was looking for the 4 screws that everybody says holds it on, but there aren't any! Is this too good to be true? Did GM possibly switch to just double sided tape to hold it on for the '04's? I don't want to take it off and have 4 holes in the tailgate, at least not till I can get them filled.

All the sierra's i have seen have the "stick on" tailgate cap, while the chevy has a combination of the stick on cap and the screw on cap. It would be silly from GM's point of view to produce two tailgates when they can get away with just making one. I can almost guarantee you'll have holes under yours too I have an 00 with the stick on cap and i'm about to remove it in favor of an SS cap as soon as i can get it painted

Your only real option is to have the tailgate holes filled and smoothed. This is usually done while getting the handle shaved for a great look.

OK, thanks for the reply. I was afraid that's what I would hear. I'm glad I didn't take it off before asking.
