stripping chrome plating??

Default stripping chrome plating??

i want to remove the chrome plating from my factory grill and bumpers so that the can be painted to match the truck...what is the best way to do it?

obviously the grill is plastic, and the bumper is metal........

I would give it a good scuffing with some sandpaper. I wouldnt worry about taking it all the way off. That will be pretty difficult. It wont come off like paint.

the best thing to do is buy a paintable grille if its a 99-02 silvy you can get a Z71 tahoe grille if its 03+ silvy get the ss grille and sierra just get a z71 yukon grille depending on the years if its 99-02 or 03+... that **** is like near impossible to get off if not impossible

actually i retract that post, i dunno the Z71 yukons came wit painted ones, i think they were actually just chrome, but they def have a painted sierra grille just ask the parts guys, if in fact you do have a sierra

...actually, none of those will work, b/c i have a new body '07.

i dont think paint will stick to the chrome even if it is sanded.

any other ideas?

You could always sand blast it off. I dont know how it would effect the plastic though.

I would think that you could get the chrome off the grille fairly easily, and the bumpers would need to be blasted. But I don't know if I would use sand, Maybe bead blast or soda blast them, sand tends to be a little rough.
