Default Stock head unit swap?

I have my old radio out of my '99 z71 lt, will it plug and play in my buddies' 01 ls? I don't care too much about anything other than he REALLY needs a friggin CD player and I happen to have an extra head for a truck I don't Have anymore... Tia.

It will plug and play in the 01, as long as the theftlock wasn't activated.

Well, it fits, but I need a bracket of some sort, I decided to put my head out of my camaro in it to try. I need to disable the theft lock, and either buy or fabricate a bracket to make the camaro head fit in my buddies' dash.

ofcourse if you used a camaro cd palyer the bracketts are different. the camaros luminas s-10 use bolts due to a smaller dash were as the f/s use those slides. to change the camaro you will have to build bracketts or get a factory cd players peice of steel that goes behind the plastic ***** lcd screen etc for use with a bolt in gm factory

You either need the code to disable it or go to the dealer and have it disabled.

i mean what exactly locks it . i mean do you have to jerk it out while the alarms going off or something. i have had 3 cars with this feature took em out and they never locked. i figured it was useless

You have to enter a code first before it can be locked. If you entered the code and you take the HU out and I think you unhook your battery, the theftlock will engage. In order to disengage it you will have to reenter the same code. If you forget the code, take it to the dealership and they can unlock it for you but you have to pay them to do it (always a catch).
