I had the RDS radio and didnt have to buy any adapters, the factory plug in to the factory radio just hung there.

are the new trucks (03-04's) using the same GM wiring harness as in the past?

NO, I don't think so, 03 was the beginning of the end, according to my dealer.

I work at Circuit City.. and we do 03 and 04 trucks all the time.. the harness for the install is about 60 bucks.. but we do not keep the factory radio in there..
