I'm with you on the $795 upcharge, but where did you find that the stepside weighs more? In 2000 at least, the fleetsides were metal quarter panels but the stepside is made of that composite plastic. Although this is not 'proof' by any stretch, NadaGuides shows the weight for both versions at 3923 lbs. This jives with my truck - with me (225 lbs) in it and a 1/4 tank of gas, the local landfill scales put me at 4210 lbs. Just curious where you found out, that's all.

The stepSide bed weighs about 100-200 lbs less that then fleet side.

The step side is about 100 LIGHTER then the wide side. Not heavyer. Its made out of urithane, so its dent resistend also.
