Decided to give it a shot.. I sanded the light down with 400 the first time around.. I did it, it looked great at first, but once the clear started to dry, it cracked all to hell.. The light had tiny cracks in it from being 8 years old, baking in the sun, I couldn't see them
.. WTF, so I sanded it down again good with 120, then 400, cleared it with 2 coats, let it tack, then hit it with night shades.. This is the result.4 coats of clear.. I must say that Rust oleum crystal clear is some amazing rattle can clear.. It lays down great, it thick. Waiting for it to dry now, then a 2000 wet sand and buff.. I have read about night shades fading if used with out clear, but last just fine with it.. I will find out.. I am going to do my lights in the next few days.. I can not justify paying 60 bucks for a oem smoked light, imo this looks just as good..

Looks good brah!
I did the same thing to both my trucks, nite shades and rattle can clear cote, turned out sweet and has been lasting bout a year now with no signs of wear.
I did tape over the "white" areas on each side of the 3rd brake light/tailights on my dmax so i could see outside better though, but i think the whole dark out of yours is the way to go on your truck.

For best results tinting lights here is the process. First water sand bare light with 500,1000,2000. then paint with night shades, 4-5 coats. Let dry then water sand again, 1000,2000. Then clear 5-6 coats. Let dry then water sand again 1000,2000. then buff with rubbing compound then hand glaze. this = perfection... Nick I will post some pics.. Looks good though mangled.....

Looks good! I got in trouble for having smoked tails and the third light. When I removed the smoked paint from them, the third got all jacked up! I need to sand it down and clean it up. It looks like there is a ice coating over it. It's annoying!
