Default Sanding handles???

I just started to sand my door handles and I started with 400 grit and it just does'nt seem to be removing enough material. Could I start with some 320 or 220 just to get the texture knocked down or is that too rough??? THANKS!!!

I used 320 on an orbital sander to get the outer rim, just make sure you keep it moving. Then wet 320 by hand in the cup area. Then i used hard pressure 400 and soft pressure 400 both wet.

You can by factory smooth door handles for like $40 and save a lot of elbow grease and look great w/ minimal prep, come primered and ready for paint. I also heard that they sell painted to match handles on Ebay, not to sure though.

I just started sanding my handles today. I only had 220 to start with and this **** is a pain in the ***. I'm having trouble smoothing them out even with 220. I dont know if I'm gonna even mess with them anymore, I might just go buy the ready to paint smooth ones. I have to sand down my whole damn truck. I'm sick of sanding!!!!!!
